No one should leave work in fear
The Get Me Home Safely campaign started out protecting hospitality workers. It’s now a global campaign, supporting Unite members in every sector of the economy, from civil aviation to logistics and passenger transport.
If you work unsocial hours and worry about your journey home, please join us.
Our goal is simple: we want everyone working together to keep workers, especially women, safe on their commute to and from work. That means safer and more reliable transport, paid or subsidised transport home after late shifts, free and safer car parks.
Different workplaces need different solutions.
Employers, councils, government, transport operators, all have a role to play.
It’s unfortune, but everyone that I know that works in hospitality has some kind of horror story.

Together, we can make change happen
We want councils to make free transport home a licensing condition for hospitality venues applying for premises licenses for alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment. This amendment promotes the fundamental licensing objectives set out in the Licensing Act 2023. The government can also change the law to make this a condition.
Every worker has a right to get home safely from work. We want employers to embed safe transport home policies for all staff and to carry out risk assessments of their journey’s to and from work, considering hazards and take steps to mitigate those risks. And where possible, to pay for taxis home for workers working past 11pm.
The decline in bus services outside London is shocking. Almost a fifth of rural bus routes have disappeared in the past five years. We need municipal ownership of our buses to tackle the chronic shortage of night and off-peak services and to improve services overall.
We support calls for bus and transport operators to introduce mandatory training on gender-based violence to equip workers with practical guidance on how to prevent and report sexual harassment and assault on public transport. We also want stronger laws and tougher action to tackle sexual harassment and sexual assault on public transport, including working CCTV.
An end cross border hiring to improve safety for women using private hire vehicles and taxis.
No one should be penalised for doing the decent thing and providing regular taxis home
