Unite secures 14.3% pay increase for First Cymru workers

Unite, the UK’s leading union has secured a pay deal worth 14.3% for its members working for First Cymru in South West Wales. The landmark deal also secures a minimum hourly rate of £12 an hour alongside full back pay.
The deal which has been accepted by Unite members means that strike action scheduled for Monday 26th September has now been cancelled.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Our members at First Cymru have stood firm and secured a well deserved deal. Our union will not tolerate poverty pay for bus workers. This 14.3% pay deal is further evidence that Unite’s focus on improving jobs, pay and conditions, continues to deliver for our members”.
Unite Wales regional co-ordinating officer Sarah Davies said: ”This pay deal shows that Unite is determined to drive up low wages in the Welsh transport sector. Our key target of achieving a minimum rate of £12 per hour has been achieved. This deal was only achieved through the hard work of our Unite representatives along with the fantastic support of our members”.
