Over 450 Stagecoach bus workers based in Oldham have secured a major improvement in pay and conditions.

Following lengthy negotiations the workers voted to accept a significantly improved offer covering pay, sickness rates and holidays, all three of which have seen dramatic improvement.

Members were preparing to ballot on whether they should take industrial action when the dispute was settled with 87 per cent of the members accepting the offer. The negotiations resulted in a 6.25 per cent pay increase, an additional five days’ holiday along with a major improvement in sickness pay.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Congratulations to our members whose steadfast determination to better their pay and conditions is inspiring.

“This deal goes to show that Unite will always strive to improve our members’ pay and conditions.”

Regional Officer Collin Hayden said: “This is a brilliant victory for the members at Stagecoach and it is a fantastic example of why workers should join Unite.”
