Members at Gatwick and Heathrow win pay rise worth over £290m over three years with potential profit share worth a further £318m
Members of Unite, Britain's winning trade union, who work for British Airways (BA) are celebrating a significant pay award that will see millions of pounds of additional pay into workers' pockets.
The three year deal has been voted on and accepted overwhelmingly by cabin crew, engineers, customer relations staff and cargo handlers at both Gatwick and Heathrow.
The extensive deal has a variety of payments but headline figures include:
  • A year one uplift of 4.5 per cent
  • A year one reward payment of £1000
  • A year two uplift of three per cent
  • Further reward payments of between one and four per cent
  • A year three uplift of three per cent
  • Further reward payments of between one and four per cent.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "I'm delighted for our hard working members at BA who keep the airline running at Heathrow and Gatwick. They do incredibly hard jobs often in safety critical roles and I'm pleased we have negotiated a significant pay increase for them. This proves once again there is power in a union."
Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said: "BA remains an iconic airline across the world and our members make every effort in often difficult circumstances to ensure that the service remains world class. This pay award rightly recognises their hard work and I'm pleased that Unite has made sure our members have greater financial certainty for the next three years."
In addition to the headline pay, the deal also comes with inflationary safety measures, an inflation matching rise in shift pay and an ongoing commitment from BA to work with Unite and other unions on employment practices and terms and conditions going forward.
