The nation’s leading offshore trade union, Unite, has confirmed it has secured a pay increase for medics who work on Shell platforms.
Unite represents around a dozen medics employed by United Healthcare Global Medical (UK) who provide essential medial cover on oil giant Shell’s platforms.
The medics accepted a pay increase of 3.7 per cent which is worth around £2,500 extra over the year. There is also a two per cent pension increase and extended income protection insurance as part of the deal successfully negotiated by Unite.
The medics work on platforms which include the Gannet Alpha, Shearwater, Nelson, Sole Pit Clipper and Leman Alpha platforms.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The United Healthcare medics have secured a significant increase in pay and boost to working conditions. It’s another demonstration of Unite delivering better jobs, pay and conditions for our offshore members.”
Unite industrial officer John Boland said: “The medics provide a critical offshore service and it’s great that their value to Shell’s offshore platforms has been recognised in this pay deal overwhelmingly backed by Unite’s members.”
