SPT Glasgow subway strike action suspended after interim offer
- Thursday 19 June 2025
Unite can confirm that strike action involving over 100 Glasgow subway workers will be suspended on Saturday (21 June) after an interim offer was tabled by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
The interim offer on pay, terms and conditions will be subject to the result of an all members ballot this Sunday (22 June).
If there is no agreement on the offer, strike action remains scheduled to take place on 25, 27 and 28 June. A continuous overtime ban has also been in place from 13 June.
The dispute centres on the working conditions of the SPT workers as Unite claims the subway system is ‘struggling’ to operate due to chronic understaffing.
Train drivers and station staff are routinely working up to 10 hours beyond contracted hours (39 hours) to keep the system operating without any improvements to the shift, overtime, and weekend allowances. Unite members are also repeatedly called in to work shifts at short notice leading to significant work-life pressures.
Andrew Brown, Unite industrial officer, said: “An interim offer has been tabled by SPT. Our members will now decide if it provides a temporary solution until a wider long-term agreement can be secured. Strike action has been suspended for this Saturday (21 June) as an act of good faith while members are balloted on the offer.”
