Dozens of workers set to benefit on Magnus offshore asset

Unite, the UK’s largest offshore union, has hailed a new pay deal for workers employed by the North Sea oil and gas operator EnQuest.

Approximately 70 workers on the operator’s Magnus platform backed a two-year deal negotiated by Unite. The agreement will deliver an average increase of nine per cent in the base salary and a substantial average increase in the offshore allowance worth 74 per cent over the period.

There are further increases in overtime and training day rates for members. The overall pay lift, which will be backdated to January this year is estimated to be worth on average over £14,000 for workers by the end of the pay agreement in March 2028.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has secured a significant pay win at EnQuest. It’s the latest example of why we are the leading union for offshore workers. We continue to deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for working people in the oil and gas industry.”

In May this year, the workforce overwhelmingly backed union recognition for Unite on the Magnus asset. The Magnus is wholly owned by EnQuest and retains significant reserves which can sustain employment for the long-term.

The workers set to benefit from the pay deal undertake various roles including: electrical, instrument, mechanical and operations technicians alongside control room operators.

Unite industrial officer Stevie Davies, said: “Unite is laser focused on improving the working conditions of offshore workers. We are pleased that this new pay deal received the overwhelming backing of our membership as the negotiations were led by our excellent EnQuest reps."

“It is worth noting that there was no need for a dispute as EnQuest engaged throughout.”
