Potential strike action by more than 200 URENCO uranium enrichment workers in Cheshire will not go ahead following an improved pay offer by the company.

The workers, members of Unite, the UK’s leading union, previously voted in favour of industrial action over a below RPI inflation pay deal of 4.1 per cent.

Annual pay negotiations with URENCO have always been based on the RPI rate of inflation for the previous September, which was 4.5 per cent in 2025.

Following negotiations with Unite, URENCO offered a pay rise of 4.5 per cent backdated to January that was accepted by an overwhelming majority of the workers.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “URENCO’s Cheshire workers stuck together in their union and won – well done to them. Unite will never fail to support our members in defending and improving their jobs, pay and conditions.”

The five-year deal guarantees the workers annual RPI inflation linked pay rises until 2030. If RPI falls below 1.5 per cent or rises above 4.5 per cent, the application of the increase will be subject to further pay negotiations.

The dispute has been resolved without any industrial action taking place.

Unite regional officer Brian Troake said: “This pay deal has restored industrial relations at URENCO and Unite looks forward to working positively in the interests of our members with the company in future. Joining Unite is the best thing workers can do if they want to secure better wages and terms and conditions.”
