Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) survey findings - November 2025

This survey, completed by 130 CAAP graduates, reveals that while CAAPs are delivering critical front-line services, however four structural obstacles risk undermining their contribution, namely a regulatory limbo, Inconsistent banding, stalled career progression and a widening training–practice gap. Unless these barriers are addressed, the strategic priorities to expand a skilled mental-health workforce, shorten waiting times for psychological therapies, and embed community-based, preventative care remain at risk. Unite Applied Psychology national committee response to NHS England announcement on continued funding of Level 7 apprenticeships in five professions - August 2025

Unite welcomes NHS England's efforts to increase the mental health workforce1 at a time of great pressure in mental health services, which follows over a decade of underfunding, predicted heightened need after the COVID-19 pandemic and widening social inequality. The announcement follows the Government's recent release of the 10 Year Health Plan2.

Unite Applied Psychology national committee Statement Re: Clinical Associate Psychology Posts in England - April 2024

We have previously communicated to Unite members our concerns regarding the banding of Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) roles using the Agenda for Change (AfC) job evaluation (JE) scheme. In those communications we highlighted several routes that we were planning to explore to address these concerns. This statement is an update on these efforts and includes some suggestions on how members should look to address these issues locally with their employer.
