Why this matters
While minimum wage increases have raised the pay of apprentices, rightly, the wages of fully qualified electricians have not kept pace.
Remember, these differentials were established to honour your skills, experience and commitment – and to reassure apprentices that a good career awaits them.
These pay rates were hard fought but are being eroded through a combination of much-needed rises in apprenticeship pay rates and below inflation pay deals in the heat of a livings cost crisis.
Unite is campaigning for a major uplift in pay rates for fully qualified electricians.
Without this, we fear skilled workers and apprentices will leave the industry.
UK construction is already struggling to attract the skills – and over 100,000 electricians are needed over the next seven years to deliver on building and net zero pledges.
We are calling on our electrician members to join the campaign to PAY SKLLED PROFESSIONALS PROPERLY.
