Unite secures cost of living payment for lowest paid in Aviva, but ‘that doesn’t go far enough’

Insurance company to give pro-rata payment to those earning up to £35,000 but Unite presses for key salary rises for all staff
Unite the union has today won extra support for the lowest pay at Aviva in response to the costs of living pressures faced by staff.
The union is calling on the company to go further and commit to a more substantial rise in salaries for all staff, regardless of hours worked.
Caren Evans, Unite national officer, said: “The campaign to give urgent help to the lowest paid across Aviva has borne some results today. But this doesn’t go far enough and Unite will continue to press for the meaningful support the workforce deserve.
“Aviva made £1.63 billion in profits in 2021 and has announced a payment of £4.75 billion back to shareholders. So Unite has no doubt that Aviva can afford to support its staff through the cost of living crisis. Aviva workers deserve a fair share of the pie.”
Unite has also today been successful in winning the scrapping of staff car parking charges at Aviva sites in Norwich, York and Sheffield. This follows a long campaign by the union to abandon the charges which can cost staff around £500 per year.
Unite is dedicated to advancing the jobs, pay and conditions of its members and will fight back against any efforts to diminish workers' living standards.
