Imperial Logistics van drivers delivering components for BMW’s Cowley plant in Oxford have won a pay rise worth over 13 per cent, Unite, the UK’s leading union, said today (Thursday).

The one year pay deal was secured after nearly 50 drivers voted to strike. Industrial action was averted due to the improved offer being put forward and accepted by 97 per cent of members on a 100 per cent turnout.

The deal includes an eight per cent increase on basic pay and overtime rates, plus a lump sum of £1,707 for those on 40-hour a week contracts and £2,134 for those on 50-hour contracts. In total, the deal is worth over 13 per cent.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Our members at Imperial Logistics secured a substantial increase in their wages because they were prepared to take collective action through their union.

“This is yet further evidence that Unite’s unrelenting focus on improving jobs, pay and conditions is delivering for our members.”

The deal comes after the workers also won a two year pay for 2021 and 2022 worth 27 per cent on base pay in November 2021. 

Unite regional coordinating officer Scott Kemp said: “This pay deal and the many others like it is exactly why workers who want to improve their wages and working lives should join Unite and get their colleagues to join too.”
