Latest pay deal in string of successes for Unite at Scottish airports

Unite the union has secured another pay deal for fire safety staff based at Glasgow Airport, the UK’s leading aviation trade union confirmed today (14 June).

Around 50 Falck firefighters who perform fire safety functions at the airport are set to receive an annual pay increase on average worth £3,262. The deal is a significant improvement on the previous 5 per cent pay offer which was rejected by 98 per cent.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite really is delivering for workers based in Scottish airports. This is a cracking deal for our Falck members based at Glasgow Airport. It’s another demonstration as to why Unite is the country’s leading trade union. The message is clear, if you work at an airport and want better jobs, pay and conditions, join Unite.”

In a string of success stories across Scottish airports, Unite has recently announced pay deals involving hundreds of members. Around 275 workers at Edinburgh Airport will receive a 12 per cent increase on basic salary and shift pay along with a one-off cash payment of £1,000.

A further 100 workers employed by Glasgow Airport Limited will receive a 7 per cent increase on basic salary rates and allowances along with a £1,000 one-off payment. 

Around 250 workers at ICTS Central Search will receive a phased increase worth up to 11 per cent while ground services crew employed by Menzies Aviation will receive up to 11 per cent on basic pay.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite industrial officer, added: “The pay offer accepted by our Falck fire services members is a good deal. It’s worth on average around £3,262 more for our members this year. Glasgow Airport is a success story for Unite in terms of winning for our members. We encourage the remaining companies to get back round the table with improved offers to resolve these outstanding pay disputes.”

Following the latest pay deal involving workers based at Glasgow Airport, Unite remains in dispute with two companies those being  ABM and OCS.
