Government must intervene immediately at Lindsey oil refinery, Unite
- Monday 30 June 2025
Fuel supplies, workers and communities must be all supported
Following the announcement this morning that the Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, in North Lincolnshire, has gone into administration, Unite, the UK’s leading union, which represents workers at the complex, has demanded the government intervenes immediately to protect workers, oil supplies and the local community.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The Lindsey oil refinery is strategically important, and the government must intervene immediately to protect workers and fuel supplies.
“Unite has constantly warned the government that its policies have placed the oil and gas industry on a cliff edge. It has failed to act and instead put its fingers in its ears.
“The government needs a short-term strategy to keep Lindsey operating and a sustainable long-term plan to fully protect all oil and gas workers.”
Unite believes that the administration is a direct result of the government’s failure to protect and transition oil and gas workers.

Notes to editors:
The union has a long-term campaign aimed at ensuring that the government does not prevent new oil and gas licences in the North Sea until equivalent jobs in renewable energy are in place. The campaign is titled No Ban Without a Plan.
