Latest 13.3 per cent increase raises wages by £9,700 over 18 months
Unite, Scotland’s leading trade union, confirmed today (Wednesday 7 ) that around 150 engineers who maintain and repair First Glasgow’s buses have secured another bumper pay deal.
The union has successfully negotiated a pay package increase worth 13.3 per cent and backdated to April 2025. This has a cash value rise of nearly £4,700 for every engineer employed by First Glasgow’s operations.
The engineers are based in various bus depots across Greater Glasgow including Blantyre, Caledonia, Dumbarton, Overtown and Scotstoun.
Sharon Graham Unite general secretary said: “Unite’s engineers at First Glasgow have secured another bumper pay deal. To deliver successive important wage increases is a fantastic result for our members. Unite does what it says on the tin: we deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for our members.”
The latest pay deal means that Unite has lifted wages by over 30 per cent or around £9,700 from 18 months ago. In November 2023, Unite delivered an incremental deal which increased the minimum wage level of engineers by 17.6 per cent in April 2024. This had a cash value worth over £5,000.
Pat McIlvogue, Unite industrial officer, added: “First Glasgow engineers have won a great result which significantly lifts wages. We are pleased that this deal was successfully negotiated with the company because they also rightly recognised the skills and talents of the engineers. We believe the deal sets a benchmark for the industry and Unite is delighted to have delivered it.”
