Double digit pay increases secured for Bidvest Noonan workers
Unite, Scotland’s leading trade union, has secured a union recognition agreement and double digit pay deal covering cleaners at Aberdeen Airport.
The recognition agreement will apply to over 20 cleaning operatives, window cleaners and supervisors when they transfer to Bidvest Noonan alongside a pay increase of up to 10.2 per cent depending on role and shift. It is the first time cleaners at Aberdeen airport will earn as a minimum the real living wage with pay per hour rising to £13.45.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has successfully negotiated a recognition agreement for cleaners at Aberdeen airport. This agreement along with a good pay deal will help to provide a launchpad for Unite to secure better jobs, pay and conditions in the Scottish aviation industry.”
The Bidvest Noonan recognition agreement provides a launch pad for Unite to undertake collective bargaining on behalf of the key workers to help improve their jobs, pay and conditions.
The agreement will take effect from 1 April when the workers will transfer from ABM.
Unite continues to clock up successes as part of its ‘Runway To Success’ campaign which is designed to establish standards beyond the legal minimums across Scottish airports.
Paula Buchan, Unite industrial officer, said: “Cleaning staff perform an essential role in maintaining safe, hygienic and operational environments at Aberdeen airport. It is important that their pay reflects a fair and decent standard of living which is why Unite is pleased to secure the real living wage as a minimum for the workers alongside this union recognition agreement.”
