Unite members at Oxalis secure strong pay deal
- Thursday 19 March 2026
Members of Unite working on Oxalis contracts have secured a strong pay deal after determined negotiations by workplace reps.
Members have won an above inflation award that will see them paid RPI+two per cent – which works out as 6.2 per cent.
Oxalis delivers specialist operational services on the Bitumen Total contract, supporting the safe handling and movement of bitumen. Workers are based out of the Navigator Terminal Purfleet and the Stolthaven Terminal Dagenham Dock supplying bitumen and tarmac to quarries and asphalt plants around the UK. It’s skilled, safety-critical work that members insisted must be properly rewarded.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is a great pay deal for our members at Oxalis and shows there is power in a union. When they stood together, union reps were able to negotiate a better deal than the company were initially prepared to offer.”
With the anniversary date of 1 February, the company initially offered 3.6 per cent. Through collective bargaining, that offer was significantly improved. In addition to the basic pay increase, workers at Oxalis have also secured future pay rises will be linked to the average of RPI and CPI and a £2,000 attendance bonus.
Unite regional officer Perry Wright said: “This deal represents a substantial improvement on the original offer and delivers real value back into members’ pockets. A clear example of members standing together to win meaningful gains. The message is clear, Unite is the winning union.”
