Strathclyde university workers in week-long strike
Unite members at Strathclyde University are on strike this week over a university wide restructuring which threatens large scale redundancies where the university is refusing to give a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies. On Tuesday 17 March 2026 Unite members at Strathclyde held a demonstration outside the student graduation ceremonies and there will be a joint union rally on Friday 20 March 2026 outside the university.
Unite has condemned the university’s failure to fully consult unions over the planned cuts to jobs and not to rule out compulsory redundancies.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Strathclyde university can no longer hide from their cloak and dagger proposals to slash jobs. The university is in an overall healthy financial position and there is absolutely no need to attack workers. Our members have been left with no option but to fight for their jobs, pay and conditions.”
Unite members at Strathclyde are now into their third week of strike action in the last year and therefore they would welcome messages of solidarity and contributions to their strike fund. For those who wish to contribute to the Strathclyde University Branch strike fund, please send donations to the branch as follows:
