Unite the Union Benevolent Fund has vacancies for two trustees.
The Unite the Union Benevolent Fund is a charity that primarily works for the benefit of members and employees of Unite the Union.
The Fund:
- Provides benefits to members or employees or ex-employees of Unite the Union or their dependents, who may be in distressed circumstances.
- Considers applications from the public whether members of the Union or not, at the discretion of the Fund.
- Makes monetary grants or donations or renders other assistance to any institution or association which can also render benefits of assistance to distressed persons.
The main activity in relation to these objects is the payment of grants to beneficiaries.
As a member of the Board, you will:
- Share our mission to assist people in distressed circumstances.
- Provide support, encouragement and appropriate challenge within the Board.
- Be an ambassador for the Fund.
The role is voluntary although our policy is to pay reasonable expenses. You will be expected to attend circa six trustee meetings each year which are usually held in person, in London.
In your role you will be expected to:
- Consider applications for financial relief, in liaison with Unite the Union employees.
- Ensure a proper record is maintained for all applications received and any benefits administered.
- Assist the Board in overseeing the investment of the Charity’s funds with professional Investment Managers.
- Ensure strict adherence to the Charity’s Constitution and rules of the Fund.
- Ensure the Charity meets the required standards of compliance with the Charity Commission, including the filing of annual reports.
- Ensure the financial stability of the Fund is maintained, in the short and long term.
- Collectively sign off the Fund’s annual accounts.
The applicant should be a member of Unite the Union.
It would be advantageous if applicants had previous Trustee Board experience, and demonstrably sound financial acumen.
