Orkney based members secure foundation for better jobs, pay and conditions
Unite, Scotland’s leading trade union, has secured a new recognition deal with Repsol Resources covering workers at the Flotta oil terminal in the Orkney Islands.
The recognition agreement which was negotiated through the auspices of the conciliation service Acas, covers around 40 terminal workers. Those within the bargaining unit includes marine and production technicians along with control room operators and supervisory roles.
The Repsol Resourses agreement means that Unite has a strong platform to undertake collective bargaining on behalf of the terminal workers to improve jobs, pay and conditions at the terminal.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has successfully negotiated a recognition agreement for our members at the Flotta terminal in the Orkney Islands with Repsol Resources. It supports the solid foundations which we are building across onshore and offshore installations to secure better jobs, pay and conditions for oil and gas workers workers.”
The Flotta terminal is located on the island of Flotta in the Orkney Islands. Crude oil is imported to the terminal from offshore installations through a subsea pipeline.
The latest agreement with Repsol Resources is in addition to an offshore recognition agreement signed in December 2023 which covers around 350 workers on the Arbroath, Auk, Bleo Holm, Claymore, Clyde, Fulmar, Montrose, Piper, and Tartan offshore platforms.
Unite has delivered a number of recent recognition deals with oil and gas companies covering hundreds of workers on offshore and onshore installations. This includes Equinor, TotalEnergies, CNOOC, MCL Medics for offshore medics on Harbour Energy installations along with contractors employed by the Wood Group and Kaefer at the St Fergus Gas plant near Peterhead.
Shauna Wright, Unite industrial officer, said: “The recognition agreement covering our members at the Flotta terminal is another significant step forward for Unite in fighting for oil and gas workers.”
“The agreement was voluntarily negotiated with Repsol Resources and demonstrates that Unite wants to constructively work with companies to drive up standards in the oil and gas industry.”
