Veolia pay dispute ends as workers agree new offer

Unite confirms strike action called off as members secure vastly improved deal

Unite the union has secured an improved pay deal for its 70-strong Veolia membership at the Grangemouth site, the workers are responsible for waste management at the plant.

The improved two year deal will see an increase in members’ pay packet of seven per cent for 2024 and four per cent for 2025.

Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, said: “Workers fighting for what they deserve and winning is a theme that employers need to take heed of. The pay deal at Veolia is another example of Unite members standing together to achieve better jobs, pay and conditions.”

The dispute centred on a previous pay offer that was far below what Unite members deserved. Strike action which was due to begin on Monday 1 July, has been called off, as a consequence of the pay offer being accepted.

Unite industrial officer Pat Egan, said: “Unite has delivered a significant improvement in pay for our membership at Veolia. Through the power of collective solidarity our members have achieved an overall increase of 24 per cent for operatives and 18 per cent for other grades since 2023. This is the power of the union in action.

“Those looking to achieve enhanced wages and better working lives should join Unite and organise their colleagues to do the same.”
