Employees vote in favour of new pay offer that sees up to 10 per cent increase
Workers at Scottish Water are celebrating a significant above-inflation pay award today after a determined campaign of industrial action.
Unite, Britain's winning trade union, backed its members as they took part in strikes across the country this spring and summer. A ballot of workers on the most recent pay offer from the employer closed today with an overwhelming vote to accept pay increases for all grades.
The lowest paid Grade 2 workers will receive a 10.67 per cent pay increase with increases for all other grades tapering to a 4.85 per cent increase for the highest Grade 8 staff.
There will also be a joint review into the use of contracts within certain areas of Scottish Water, a review of stand-by hours including assessing the impact of these on employees wellbeing and a review of whether to take account of inflation in future pay awards.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "This is a great result that shows the determination of the workforce to stand firm against a large and powerful company. Our members are stronger together and this results shows the power in a union.
Unite regional officer Sam Ritchie added: "It took prolonged and numerous strike actions for Scottish Water to see sense and pay our members what they deserve but they stood strong and won this increase through strength in numbers. Scottish Water should have sorted this months ago and will now realise that their workers aren't to be trifled with."
