Strikes by electricians employed by NG Bailey working at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Berkshire have been cancelled after a pay deal was secured, Unite, the UK’s leading union, said today (Thursday).

Approximately 100 Unite electricians who work at NG Bailey on Awe’s Mensa project will benefit from the pay rise after voting for industrial action. All scheduled strike action has now been called off.

In total, the pay deal, made up of hourly increases from an incentive bonus as well as a cost of living payment, is worth 9.4 per cent or around £6.50 per hour.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Our members at NG Bailey secured a substantial increase in their hourly wage because they were prepared to take collective action through their union.

“As this result shows, Unite’s unrelenting focus on improving jobs, pay and conditions is winning for our members.”

AWE’s Mensa project is building a new facility for assembling and disassembling nuclear warheads.

Unite regional officer Malcolm Bonnett said: “The pay deal secured at NG Bailey is a prime example of why workers who want to improve their wages and working lives should join Unite and get their colleagues to join too.”
