Contract will secure 350 Alstom Derby jobs and 6,000 jobs across the supply chain

Unite, the UK’s leading union, has welcomed the news that 29 Adessia Steam trains will be built at Alstom’s factory in Derby.

The announcement follows Unite’s ‘Fill the Gap – Save Alstom Derby’ campaign, which started in 2023.

The campaign called for urgent action to secure a pipeline of work for Alstom workers and ensure the next generation of trains and carriages could continue to be built at Litchurch Lane.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This news will come as a huge relief to Alstom’s Derby workers and those in the supply chain. Unite’s Alstom members have worked tirelessly in campaigning to ensure Derby’s proud history of training making continues well into the future. A massive well done to everyone involved.”

Unite regional secretary for the East Midlands, Paresh Patel, said: “Unite will build on this latest development by continuing to campaign for more trains and carriages to be made at this first-class rail manufacturing facility.”

‘Fill the Gap – Save Alstom Derby’ highlighted the importance of protecting skilled manufacturing jobs at a site with a proud history of building trains and carriages for the UK and global rail network for more than 100 years.

Unite reps and members lobbied government and the employer, bringing together MPs, ministers, chief executives and local councils to make the case for investment and ensuring Derby remains at the heart of the UK’s rail manufacturing industry.
